Aluminum 2219

Aluminum Alloy 2219, an age-hardenable alloy is produced with a copper additive.  It is well-known for its excellent structural strength and it’s used for numerous high temperature applications.  It is a suitable alloy for many metalworking processes including machining, forming, heat treatment, cold working, and more.
The chemical composition of Aluminum Alloy 2219 includes:
  • Cu 5.8-6.8%
  • Mn .20-.40%
  • Mg .02%
  • Fe .30%
  • Si .20%
  • Zn .10%
  • Zr .10-.25%
  • Ti .02-.10%
This alloy was not designed for hot working; it is best used for cold working and is machinable in the annealed condition. Hot working and welding adversely affect this alloy’s ability to resist corrosion.
If welded or hot worked,  this alloy must be heat treated to restore corrosion resistance. Heat treatment can be performed at 1000 °F, followed by a cold water quench.
Some of Aluminum Alloy 2219’s common applications include structural components for harsh, high temperature environments, as well as higher strength weldments. As a raw material, it is available in flat rolled products, forging products, and shapes.
Our alloys meet or exceed the industry’s toughest standards, including all applicable AMS, ASTM, MIL, QQ, and SAE applications, and more. To find out more about this alloy or the wide range of other options available from Anita Steel & Metals, please contact us directly.

Aluminum 2024

Aluminum 2024, known for its use in aircraft industry, is an alloy that offers excellent strength. When in the annealed condition it is readily formed and has good machinability. Though it has a relatively low level of corrosion resistance, it can be machined to a high finish.
Inert gas consumable electrode arc welding is preferred and it takes hot and cold working and forging well.
Alloys sold as Aluminum 2024 have a unique chemical composition that includes:
  • Al 93.50%
  • Cu 4.4%
  • Mg 1.5%
  • Mn 0.6%
You will find Aluminum 2024 in use in a number of critical industrial and commercial applications including:
  • Fuselage skins in commercial and military aircraft
  • Wing tension members
  • Shear webs and ribs
  • Truck wheels
  • Crew machine products
  • Veterinary and orthopedic braces
  • Scientific instruments
  • Rivets
Anita Steel & Metals offers a wide variety of Aluminum 2024 like plate, sheet, and bar. All of the Aluminum 2024 available from Anita Steel & Metals meets or exceeds many leading industry standards including those from ASTM, AMS, DIN, MIL-Spec, QQ, and SAE.

Aluminum 2017

Aluminum 2017 is a heat treatable wrought alloy that offers decent strength, ductility, and good machinability. Aluminum 2017 offers more strength than Aluminum 2011, and has fair workability and corrosion resistance.
As with many aluminum alloys, Aluminum 2017 should not be welded as it reduces the alloy’s corrosion resistance.
Because of its unique properties, Aluminum 2017 is popular for a number of different applications including:
  • Aerospace components
  • Rivets
  • General structural components
  • Transportation
  • Fasteners
  • Screw machine products
  • Gauges
  • Pulleys
  • Needles for knitting
To be called Aluminum 2017, an alloy must have a chemical composition that consists of:
  • Al 91.5-95.5%
  • Cu 3.5-4.5%
  • Mn 0.4-1%
  • Fe 0.7% max
  • Mg 0.4-0.8%
  • Zn 0.25% max
  • Ti 0.15%
  • Cr 0.1%
Anita Steel & Metals offers Aluminum 2017 in a variety of shapes and sizes including sheet, plate, wire, tube, rod, and bar.
All the Aluminum 2017 Anita Steel & Metals stocks and sells meets the most exacting standards including those from AMS, ASTM, QQ, SAE, and UNS. To discover if Aluminum 2017 is right for your next project, please contact an aluminum alloy expert at Anita Steel & Metals today.

Aluminum 2014

For customers who need an aluminum product with strength, machinability and welding capabilities, Aluminum Alloy 2014 is an excellent option. It is a precipitation hardening alloy that maintains strength after heat treatment, which should be performed at 935°F and followed by a water quench.
Aluminum Alloy 2014 can be machined best in the annealed condition. Any welding should be conducted using inert gas consumable electrode arc methods with alloy 2014 or alloy 2017 filler rods. When welding, it is important to arrange fixturing for minimum strain to avoid cracking.
The chemical composition of Aluminum Alloy 2014 falls within the following parameters:
  • Cu 3.9-5.0%
  • Mn .40-1.2%
  • Mg .20-.80%
  • Fe .50%
  • Si .50-.90%
  • Zn .25%
  • Cr .10%
  • Ti .15%
Most commonly used for truck frames and aerospace structures, this material is primarily available in coil form, but it’s also offered in bars, wire, shapes, and forging products.
Anita Steel & Metals sells aluminum that meets or exceeds the industry’s most stringent standards.  The Alloy 2014 we offer meets all appropriate ASTM, DIN, MIL, QQ, SAE, and UNS specifications.
