High Speed Steel M42
High Speed Steel Round Bar can be drilled, turned, threaded, broached, milled and tapped when it is in its annealed condition and rated at 45% of 1% carbon steel. M42 molybdenum high speed tool steel is preheated to 871°C (1599°F) in a slow manner and then soaked. This is followed by rapid heating to 1093°C (1999°F) and slow cooling. Temperatures below 982°C (1799°F) are not suitable for the forging process.

High Speed Steel T42
T42 have been used as high performance cutting and rolling tools. Tools structural application is a combination of high strength, wear resistance, high hardness together with toughness, fatigue resistance and thermal resistance. Recent research on extending tools life and improving structural performance are being carried out through manufacturing process, heat-treatment, surfacing process and alloying elements. SPS technique has the merits of faster heating rates, shorter sintering times and high density. During SPS process, alloy powders in a graphite die are pressed uniaxially a D.C. pulse voltage is applied and the heating is accomplished by electric discharge between particles. However, the research for the T42 using SPS was not carried out generally.

High Speed Steel T4
Tools steels are mainly used for manufacturing tools used in machining plastics, metals and woods. However, tool steels must be fabricated into the desired shape before they are able to be used. They have good toughness; wear resistance, machinability and resistance to decarburization. T4 tool steel is a high speed, tungsten type tool steel. It is a deep hardening alloy capable of Rockwell C 64 hardness.

High Speed Steel T5
Tungsten high-speed tool steels are designated group T steels according to the AISI classification system and range from T1 to T15. These steels have similar characteristics to those of molybdenum high-speed tool steels. The following sections will discuss T5 tool steels in more detail.
